Colección Visionaria is where Brugal's fifth-generation Maestra Ronera, Jassil Villanueva Quintana — the first woman to hold the title in the Dominican Republic — introduced a technique unique to the house: Aromatic Cask Toasting. For this inaugural Edición 01, virgin European oak casks are toasted with Dominican cacao beans, infusing the wood with their nutty, velvety, fruity aromas; the beans are removed, the casks are filled, and the rum matures under the Dominican sun — flavor from aroma alone, with nothing added to the liquid. The inspiration was personal: Villanueva grew up walking among the cacao trees around her family home. The rum is Brugal's Spanish-style spirit — molasses fermented 12 to 40 hours with proprietary yeast, double distilled on column stills — bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV) in a 700ml netted bottle in a blue box.
