McConnell's Sherry Cask Irish Whiskey is the richer sibling of the revived Belfast brand's standard five-year-old. The same blend of malt and grain whiskeys, aged five years in bourbon casks, is finished in sherry casks and bottled at a fuller 46% ABV (92 proof). The sherry finish brings dried fruit, raisin and warm spice over the whiskey's honey and vanilla base, with a touch of sweetness and a nutty depth. The higher proof gives it a rounder mouthfeel and a longer finish. It is a sipping whiskey first, and a good base for an Irish Old Fashioned or a Manhattan-style stirred drink. This 750ml bottle is a good pick for drinkers who want a sherried Irish whiskey without a big price tag.
