Paper & Stationery ｜WILLIAM MORRIS ORCHARD PATTERN METAL BOOKMARK
Details of Paper & Stationery ｜WILLIAM MORRIS ORCHARD PATTERN METAL BOOKMARK
Inspired by Orchard designed by John Henry Dearle (British, 1860-1932). Made by Morris and Company (British, 1861-1940).
Acanthus leaves were a pervasive motif in William Morris's work. His associate, John Henry Dearle, took them and added a vertical element in the fruit tree trunks to create the pattern, Orchard. It is reminiscent of the embroidered wall hangings designed by Dearle and Morris's younger daughter, Mary, in the late 1890s.
