FAQ – MRCOOL DIYM236HPW05D00 36k 5th Gen DIY Multi-Zone Bundle (12K + 18K, 16ft)

1. Is this system really DIY-friendly?
Yes. The MRCOOL DIY line is built around pre-charged Quick-Connect® line sets, so you don’t have to handle refrigerant or pull a vacuum when you follow MRCOOL’s instructions.

2. How many zones can the 36k condenser handle?
The DIY-MULTI5-36HP230D-O can support up to 5 indoor units. This bundle uses two (12K + 18K), so you can still add up to three more zones later.

3. What room sizes are the 12K and 18K air handlers best for?

12K: Up to about 550 sq. ft.
18K: Up to about 800 sq. ft.

Actual sizing depends on insulation, windows, and climate.

4. What breaker size does the outdoor unit need?

Minimum Circuit Ampacity (MCA): 30.5A
Maximum Fuse / Breaker: 35A

Always follow MRCOOL’s installation manual and local electrical code.

5. How long are the included line sets and what sizes are they?

DIY16-1438-O: 16 ft, 1/4” × 3/8”, pre-charged R-454B — typically used for the 12K
DIY16-1412-O: 16 ft, 1/4” × 1/2”, pre-charged R-454B — sized for the 18K

6. Can I extend the 16 ft line sets if needed?
Yes. MRCOOL offers DIY coupler kits and additional pre-charged line sets, as long as you stay within the condenser’s total line length and configuration limits.

7. What refrigerant does this system use?
All components in this bundle use R-454B, MRCOOL’s new-generation refrigerant with higher efficiency and lower global warming potential than R-410A.

8. Is the system quiet enough for bedrooms?
Yes. Both indoor units have Quiet Mode, multiple fan speeds, and low sound levels that make them suitable for bedrooms and home offices.

9. Will this system dehumidify my space?
Yes. DRY MODE focuses on removing humidity while still providing cooling, which is especially useful in humid climates.

10. Can I control the 12K and 18K zones separately?
Absolutely. Each indoor unit has its own remote and WiFi controls, so you can set different temperatures and schedules in each room.

11. Does it work with smart home systems?
Yes. The included SmartHVAC® technology works with the SmartHVAC app, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant.

12. Is my warranty valid if I buy from MRCOOL Direct?
Yes. MRCOOL Direct is an authorized MRCOOL dealer, so your warranty is fully supported when installed and registered correctly.

13. What warranties are included?

5-year parts warranty
7-year compressor warranty
Extended Limited Lifetime Replacement Warranty when registered and enrolled in MRCOOL® Care (per MRCOOL terms).

14. Is this bundle good for a bedroom plus a living room?
Yes. The 12K + 18K combo is ideal for a medium bedroom plus a larger living room or open area on the same system.

15. Should I hire an electrician?
If you’re not 100% comfortable working with 208/230V electrical circuits, you should use a licensed electrician to install the breaker, disconnect, and outdoor power wiring. Always go by your state code.
