Don Q Limón was the first flavored rum the Serrallés family introduced back in 1998 — a genuine milestone for a Puerto Rican distillery that's been making rum since 1865 using a copper pot still imported from France. It starts as a young rum aged 1 to 1.5 years, then gets infused with real Puerto Rican key limes and natural essential flavor before charcoal filtering. It picked up Platinum-Best in Class and Gold honors at the 2010 Spirits International Prestige Awards. Professional-style reviews tend to be quite positive: expect a nose dominated by key lime, lemon, and citrus peel, with a sweet, delicate palate bringing banana, pineapple, and a touch of light wood, finishing smooth and sweet. One detailed reviewer specifically praised the use of real key lime oil rather than synthetic flavoring, calling it the best Limón rum available and a strong pick for a Cosmopolitan. Community opinion runs more mixed, though — some drinkers find it weaker and less lime-forward than competitors like Bacardi Limón, and a few describe the citrus character as closer to Meyer lemon than true lime. Bottled at 30% ABV (60 proof). Great in a Mojito, Cuba Libre, or simply topped with club soda.
