Vivid, tropical-looking foliage brings instant garden drama with Iresine herbstii ‘Brilliantissima’. This stunning bloodleaf forms a dense mound of shiny, succulent leaves in deep green to purple tones, electrified with hot-pink veining and shifting toward sumptuous magenta-red in shade. It is foliage color with full theatrical commitment.
Also known as chicken gizzard plant or bloodleaf, ‘Brilliantissima’ is fabulous for containers, warm-season borders, shade gardens, tropical-style plantings, and mixed foliage displays. Use it as a bold contrast with chartreuse, silver, deep purple, orange flowers, coleus, begonias, cannas, and ornamental grasses. Its saturated leaf color makes it especially useful where flowers are not the whole point and texture needs to do the talking.
Plant Iresine herbstii ‘Brilliantissima’ in part shade to bright shade with rich, well-drained soil and regular water. It can be grown as a tender perennial in mild climates or a dramatic annual accent in colder areas. Pinch as needed to keep plants bushy.
